MSSMREMEDY
- A PROJECT OF THE MOUNT SINAI STUDENT CHAPTER OF PHYSICIANS FOR
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.
MSSM
REMEDY is a student-run project committed to the recovery of recyclable
medical supplies and equipment from Mount Sinai Hospital and affiliated
programs and distributing them to communities who have less access
to healthcare materials. The project, started in the summer of 2004,
is based on the REMEDY (Recovered Medical Equipment for the Developing
World) program at Yale, a successful model for programs at more
than 250 hospitals in the United States. Estimates so far value
the donations made during 2003 at $47,500. Materials included: home
health care supplies, surgical instruments, medications, and specialized
equipment. Since our third donation, Hope for a Healthier Humanity
has been designated our primary receiving organization, directly
transporting the supplies to hospitals in South America.
